HHAWA is a Malaysian grunge, indie rock, and alternative band led by musician Eff Hakim. Formed in May 2022, the project serves as a shift for Hakim from the synth-pop style of her previous band, Pastel Lite, toward a more raw, rock-focused sound.
Band Profile
- Lineup: The project is primarily the creative vision of Eff Hakim (vocals, guitar), who writes and produces most of the music. For live performances and touring, the band includes:
- Tiinesh (bass guitar)
- Acap (drums, vocals)
- Influences: Their sound draws from early 2000s Malaysian indie bands like OAG and Layla’s Lounge, as well as 90s alternative acts such as Hole, Veruca Salt, and Mazzy Star.
Key Releases:
- “Aku Dah Mati” (Debut Single, 2024): A track exploring themes of betrayal with a grunge aesthetic.
- “Mayat Hidup” (2024): A follow-up single described as an anthem of “confidence and rage”.
- “Terkuburnya Seorang Gadis Di Kuala Lumpur”: A physical CD release available through the band.
